Jimmy was born in East London in February 1940. He scored on his debut aged 17 when he
scored in the 1-1 draw against Spurs. He then became the first player to score 100 goals
before the age of 21. When Jimmy left Stamford Bridge his last game was against Notts
Forest. Chelsea won 4-3 and Jimmy scored all four goals. When the game was over Chelsea
supporters carried Jimmy on their shoulders around the ground so he could wave to the
crowd. I felt so sad to see him go and Chelsea have never replaced him.
He played for England 57 times and scored 44 goals. When he left Stamford Bridge he signed
for A.C. Milan but was only there for only 4 months and he then returned to England and
signed for Spurs for a fee of £99,999.
Towards the end of his career he was plagued by Alcoholism but Jimmy was too strong a
character and he came through and finished up as a celebrated pundit on TV and also he
writes a column in the Sun newspaper.

Chelsea League Championship 1954/5

I remember the season 1954/5. One I got married and two Chelsea won the
Championship.
The moment to remember, the one that had been awaited by many for 50years,
came in the minute hand on the clock showed five minutes to five. At that precise
point news came through from Cardiff that Portsmouth had lost and Chelsea were
Champions.
Well how have Chelsea done it?. Mostly by their team spirit, fitness and direct play.
In the last 16 matches they cllected 24 points and the final points of 52 was the lowest
since the league started. After the final game people ran on to the dog track and collected
in front of the East Stand . The team came out and Ted Drake and Roy Bentley gave
Championship.

One of the players Stan Willemse still say that winning the Championship the board offered
the players £20 or a West End Tailored Suit.

Chelsea v Moscow Dynamo

This game was played in November 1945 when I was 13 years old. I wemt to the game with
my friend John Brown. Both of us went sick and did not go to school.
We still go by London Transport to all Chelsea games and everything is the same. We went on
the Piccadilly Line from Rayners Lane to Earls Court when we changed to the District Line
to Walham Green which is now called Fulham Broadway. This journey still only tahes 45 minutes
the same as today.
This game was fantastic . When we got to Stamford Bridge the whole of London seemed to be there.Having got in the ground people were everyway. Some were even on top of the East
Stand . When the gates were closed way before the kick off time people got in the ground via
the Flats next to Slamford Bridge. It is estimated the crowd inside the ground was in the region
of 1oo,ooo. Although the official attendance was 74,496.
Getting back to the game which was a 3-3 draw.
Photos are enclosed as follows
1. Some of the crowd at the game with people on top of the East Stand.
2.Copy of the Official Programme.
This game will stay in my mind all my life, and people still ask me about the game which was
played 62 years ago.
